DINNER FOR 6 WITH THE GILLETTES John Gillette's career spans more than 40 years, beginning with 2 tours as a clandestine, special operator running long range reconnaissance missions in Viet Nam to where he is today. After spending 2 years in Afghanistan as the senior advisor to 1 of the Afghan National Army's most valued general officers, John will be returning home in late June with a story to tell. He has traveled extensively across Afghanistan and has participated in over 500 missions 'outside the wire'; most often working alone, without security in the company of the Afghans. John has been a "boots on the ground advisor and will offer you insights on what it is like to drive the dangerous streets of Kabul on a daily basis, he will give a participant's account of the gunfight that occurred within the Ministry of Defense in the spring of 2011, a street eye view of the fight popularized as the "Siege of Jabul" in the fall of 2011, the pain of losing 9 fellow advisors being gunned down in a 'green on blue' shooting and even discuss the non-classified issues with Afghan/Pakistan relations. From night flights on American Black Hawks to ground skimming rides on Russian made MI 17 helicopters; sometime poignant, sometimes humerous, John will offer amizing insights into America's longest war & propose what is yet to come. If you want an unvarnished perspective of the inside story of life in Afghanistan & whether we are winning or losing the campaign, this dinner for 6 people is a unique opportunity to learn the real story over a private dinner with a fellow SCI member who will be returning to the states in late June.
